Benefits of linen meal

Flax scrap is a product obtained by processing flaxseeds after pre-pressing and extraction of oil with subsequent heat treatment (toasting).
It is used as a source of protein and dietary fiber, mainly for cattle (dairy and meat), as well as as part of feed mixtures for all types of farm animals and poultry.

It is an excellent alternative to sunflower and rapeseed meals due to its high protein content and low fiber content.

The protein content in flaxshock is 40-42%. At the same time, the digestibility of proteins in chickens and piglets is significantly higher than that of sunflower and rapeseed meals and is comparable to soybean meal.

The fiber content of flaxshot is 8-9%, which is significantly less than sunflower and rapeseed meal. Its peculiarity is that 85% of it consists of easily digestible pectins, which promote the growth of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli in the intestine, thereby suppressing the growth and reproduction of putrefactive and pathogenic microflora, reducing the cost of antibiotics and increase immunity.

Linseed meal has the highest rumen protein (UDP) – 43%, which is more than soybean (38%), rapeseed (36%) and significantly more than sunflower (24%).

It also contains linseed oil with a high content of essential fatty acids (omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9), which provides additional energy and has a beneficial effect on metabolism.

The high content of lignans and easily digestible proteins contributes to the formation of so-called “meat marbling” when fattening bulls for meat.

Advantages of linen scrap over rapeseed and sunflower scrap:

  • High protein and amino acid content
  • Low cost per unit of gross protein
  • High protein digestibility and amino acid usability
  • A higher proportion of non-degradable protein in the rumen (UDP) in cattle
  • Lower fiber content

Advantages of linen scrap over linen molding (cakes):

  • Higher protein content and digestibility
  • The molding has a limited shelf life (2-3 weeks) due to rapid rancidity of fat, especially in the summer
